Solatrium 7

Bodega Harbour, CA

Bruins-Slot Architects

Ralph Bruins-Slot, Principal

Solatrium 7 is a composition of redwood and stained glass.  Clean architectural lines fold the building into is hillside setting providing panoramic ocean views from every room.  Six rooms, two bedrooms plus study and two baths make up the 1852 square feet of living space.  A solarium opens directly into both kitchen and living room.  An atrium in the center of the house performs much of the solar collection function of the structure.

The construction reflects the energy consciousness of the hybrid-solar design.   Approximately 85% of the space and water heating requirement of the structure are provide by solar energy collected by the solarium, atrium and south-facing collector wall.  The capital investment required for this type of construction is markedly lower than conventional design and construction.  Solatrium provides year-around comfort at a fraction of the cost of conventional construction both in terms of initial installation and annual fuel bills.
